We are often asked by customers if it is possible to retrospectively fit out an existing mezzanine floor, and the answer is always a resounding YES! We recognise that for many of our customers it is important that they can adapt their premises quickly in order to respond to changes in the business and we can offer support and guidance in the future proofing of their building.

Our customer Formwise Washrooms approached us at the beginning of 2016 with a requirement for a Mezzanine floor to house some of their stores items. The additional floor space of 74.8 m² meant that the area that was previously used to house stores could now be freed up to locate new machinery. This was very much a short term fix for the customer, who was expanding and knew that further space would be required at a later date. With this in mind Cubex proposed a mezzanine floor with a weight capacity of 4.8kN per square metre, to provide Formwise Washrooms with flexible floor usage in the future, without the additional expense and disruption of having to brace the floor at a later date to house additional weight. The floor was installed with all of the relevant fire protection to the elements of structure to allow personnel to work on the floor for indefinite periods of time.

Fast forward a year and Formwise Washrooms are expanding again! They approached Cubex Contracts to quote for a further Mezzanine floor for the other side of their production facility, and to fit out their existing Mezzanine to create additional meeting space and welfare facilities that were lacking as the company head count rose to meet the expansion of the business. A 330m² Mezzanine floor was designed and erected by Cubex.

Cubex designed and fitted out both a meeting room and canteen area for the customer retrospectively on their first Mezzanine using composite partitioning; a completely demountable and reusable system that can be easily reconfigured should the customer require further changes in the future. Further works included dry lining the external walls, providing a suspended ceiling, lighting, electrics, smoke detection and relevant flooring. The retrospective fit out took approx 11 days and we think it looks rather good!
