How did we help one of the UK’s leading electrical wholesalers and plumbers merchants to expand their storage space and create a showroom?
Tec Supplies Ltd
Client: Tec Supplies Ltd
Projects: Expansion of storage space and showroom creation
Project Duration: 2 weeks
Who's the customer?
Tec Supplies Group Ltd is a specialist electrical wholesaler and plumbers merchants which was established in 1975. Over the past 45+ years they have grown to become one of the UK’s leading independent businesses in this sector. Due to the growth of services to both trade and retail customers, Tec Supplies Group recently increased the number of their sites with retail showrooms staying at their original site at Wyke Hill, Maldon and their trade offering being based out of a new space in Heybridge.
What was the brief?
After a recent transformation of the retail showrooms at Maldon, which saw the arrival of new product ranges and inspiring room settings over two floors, the customer wanted to add extra storage and a showroom to their other site, utilising the space in an existing empty building.
The customer was looking to fit out an empty building that was already on site to create additional storage space and a trade showroom. Although there was no specific deadline for project completion, it was requested that the works were finished as soon as possible.
What did we propose?
Cubex Contracts proposed the design and installation of a mezzanine floor with suspended ceiling, two doorways (one single, one double door) and a general access staircase to a first-floor open plan storage space. The underside height of the ceiling below the mezzanine was lowered to 2.6 metres and the space was drylined on all four exterior walls to create a neat, enclosed trade showroom.
About the project
Our team carefully considered the use of the floor and determined that a safe working load of 4.8kN per square metre would be sufficient. As the space is to be used for storage purposes only, it was agreed that we would fit two utility stairways, the primary stairs with closed risers which would fit within the footprint discussed with the customer. We then contacted the Building Control Assessor to discuss the plans prior to manufacture.
Before we started the project both the customer and Cubex Contracts carefully ensured all personnel working on the site (employees and external contractors) acknowledged and complied with the current Covid-19 Government guidelines.
