What was the brief?

With a reception area to one side of a large open plan room (housing a communal kitchen towards the centre) and an open plan office beyond, Ellacott’s wanted to separate these spaces in order to more clearly define the key areas of a reception, breakout/kitchen area and office space. The idea was to reduce noise and create an area for people to have smaller meetings, 1:1’s or just relax during a break…. but they still required an open plan feeling and flow.

The customer also wanted to update the aesthetics of the room to give it a more modern feel, but was unsure of what their options were as they were working with a limited budget.

What did we propose?

We knew there was a limited budget with this project so our job was to work smart, maximising the customer’s existing space and differentiating areas whilst keeping the work required to a minimum.

Having initially proposed glass partitions around the kitchen area, the plan was modified to enlarge the break out space and some of the glazing was switched for stud partitions with sound attenuation so that any noise from the TV or break out space did not disrupt the open plan office.

We also installed a glazed partition between the reception area and the communal area to create a walk through to clearly define the spaces where visitors were welcomed in and the open plan space beyond.  This also gave us an opportunity to echo company branding with a manifestation of the customer’s logo on the glass partition.

Lastly, but by no means least, we recommended a combination of new and pre-loved office furniture (which we assembled, installed and removed all associated rubbish) to transform the aesthetics, helping to keep costs to a minimum.

About the project

The project was completed in 10 working days, but there was an extra 4 day wait for the glass to arrive.  From start to finish, we completed this project in just 2 weeks.

The glass door was a little out of the ordinary as it was a whopping 2.5m high. Technically speaking this is very difficult to install, but have no fear, Cubex is here!  We installed the bespoke glass door into the stud partitioning frame to complete the sleek, modern and contemporary look within this workspace.

And it doesn’t end there… We also fitted a TV into the breakout area against the stud wall – no job is too small to achieve the best results and a happy customer!
